Hosts with a passion
We are Sibylle Schelling and Patrick Merkofer, and we look forward to welcoming you to our guesthouse on Ærø. It was our love of the sea, as well as the people and culture of the island, that brought us to Ærø. We live together in Switzerland and spend every summer here on the island. We’d love to share our enthusiasm for this special place and our joy in hosting with you.
It is important to us to live our lives mindfully and to savour the moment. For the next chapter of our lives, we have been very fortunate to be able to take over Gæstgiveri Bregninge from Hanne and Steen. We are very much looking forward to this new venture and the many encounters it will bring.
It makes us happy to be able to spend the summer as hosts on Ærø. We do everything we can to ensure that you feel just as at home with us as we do ourselves. We sail with the wind of life, laugh a lot and love drinking coffee in good company. So don’t hesitate to visit us – there’s always a cup of coffee ready for you.

Patrick on Sibylle
Sibylle was born 59 years ago in the Black Forest and has lived in Switzerland since 1991. For the past 14 years, she has been happily teaching primary school children in Oberägeri. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time in nature – cycling, hiking, doing yoga, winter sports or stand-up paddleboarding.
She grew up with horses and a love of nature and people. Sibylle never ceases to amaze me with her creativity and her brilliant ideas. She is lively and cheerful and enriches my life enormously.
Patrick Merkofer
Sibylle on Patrick
Patrick was born 59 years ago in French-speaking Switzerland. His mother is Dutch and passed on to him a deep love of the sea and sailing. He works as a quality manager at Swiss Post and, as a qualified event manager, enjoys organising events and short trips for friends and acquaintances. He loves nothing more than being out on the water. In winter, he goes skiing or explores the mountains on snowshoes.
Patrick is very good with people and treats everyone with care and respect. It’s a wonderful combination that makes him particularly endearing. I’m really looking forward to the time ahead with him and am convinced that this shared task will further enrich our relationship.
